NEW rule for 2020: The Gold Point has landed in World Padel Tour

This season World Padel Tour has launched the “Gold Point” which is a new scoring method designed to boost the game and the development of matches.

How it works?

If both pairs have won three points each, the score of “deuce” will be called and the decisive Gold Point will be played. The receiving pair will choose whether they want to receive the service from the right side or the left side of the court. The receiving pair cannot change position to receive this decisive point. The couple that wins the decisive point will win the game.

This measure was thought to make the development of a tight match more dynamic and fast during the main tournaments organised by World Padel Tour. This system will energise the game and make it more attractive for fans. The Cervezas Victoria Marbella Master, was held from February 29 to March 8, implemented the new regulation and it was successful. For streaming could be good, since a shorter and faster match make easier the retransmission, also in Spain for GolTV, the TV channel in charge of the live retransmission of WPT.

The rule was not that new for players and padel entrepreneurs, the rule has been included in the contract signed with the professional players for a year. It is also part of the official regulation of the International Padel Federation (FIP) as one of the Alternative Scoring Methods.
